Alarm by Elizabeth @ clarity-chaos.com

The alarm had been ringing for so long it eventually became part of the background noise.

:::

It's Snippets {edition three}, and I'd love for you to play along. Just drop your link or your response into the comments section of this post by next Thursday at 7pm. Each Friday, I'll list all the responses (maybe featuring a favorite) and I'll leave you with a new Snippet (a writing/photography/painting prompt of sorts) for the coming week.

Interested? Click here for the guidelines. And please - if you use an exact phrase or sentence from the Snippet (or paste the full Snippet right into your post to accompany your response), please link and attribute my words. Thank you! (Besides - then your readers can come back here to check out all the other responses.)

And now, for the responses to Snippets {edition two}:

Tin Pail by Elizabeth @ clarity-chaos.com

And when she finally spoke, her words dropped like pebbles in a tin pail.

Featured response by Corinne at Trains, Tutus and Tea Time:

When she spoke, her words dropped like pebbles into a tin pail. She felt them roll off her tongue, one after the other in an avalanche that raced passed her lips. They echoed as they bounced off the round sides of the pail, spiraling near the bottom, clinking against the metal. She had to say the words, spoken to no one and everyone.

words
quiet, scared and small
words
gaining, fleeting and multiplying
words
empowering, freeing and....

plink plink plink

She breathed deeper, unencumbered as her breath softened, her exhales meaningful. She took stock of the full pail, the weight of her words. Heaviness as she lifted her arms, the bucket towards her heart.

She let go. She let it drop, let the words stream out and land on the earth. They escaped the between and rolled, and rolled, and rolled, clacking from the uneven sides and unrealized motives.

And then she smiled. Turned, and walked away.

Please visit Corinne's blog and all of the following links to see the fantastic responses to this week's Snippet (a nice mix of writing and images).

Tsholo at Hope in Love

And mine:

And when she finally spoke, her words dropped like pebbles in a tin pail. Rock hit metal, the rattle and clang ringing louder than the tiny stones would suggest.

When she finished, they peered together past the rim, staring silently at what rested at the bottom.

From that day on, when she found herself short on words, she simply reached down into that old tin pail and tossed a handful of gravel over her shoulder as she went.

And what do you think? Would you all prefer one of those Linky things or does this work for you? Let me know....

I've done my snippet for this week:

I was brave this week and challenged myself to actually write - usually I shy away from it and go for the visual!

Looking forward to seeing everyone else's. There were so many great entries last week.
