first light

There is little I love more than sleeping in. But that means I'm usually still dreaming when the sun steals the sky from the night.

And while I love a glorious sunrise as much as the next, I cannot bear to drag myself out of bed to catch one. In fact, most of the sunrises that I have watched were on those mornings when I was still up from the night before, forcing wakefulness just long enough to watch as the sky tints violet and then lavender before breaking full on into Day, when I finally would crash and sleep until noon. (*sigh* the pre-kid days....)

Intentionally waking early enough to sit and mindfully watch the sun rise seems not to be in my genetic makeup. I do enjoy lazy mornings in bed.

The downside? I miss this.

Thanks to my new friend Beth for the photo, taken this last weekend on our canoe and camping trip on the Wisconsin River.

I'm grateful that she was able to drag herself from her tent slightly earlier than I, and I consider this image a gift.

And while I didn't exactly catch the sunrise, I did peek out my tent for a view of the river in the early morning light.

Axel seemed to like it, too.

i am not a sunrise girl either. i would take sleep anyday! but lately since the time is changing, it is still dark when my baby and i head out the door, and as we drive to the babysitters house it just feels PEACEFUL...like the world is not awake yet. it has been nice. beautiful pictures :)

I have only become a morning person in the last few years. It started when I realized this was the only available time to fit in runs with my girlfriend, and has shifted to a realizing that I need to find quiet reflective time for myself and as the kids get older...so does their bedtime ( or coming in from whatever time). I am hooked. The last few times my husband and I went of vacation neither of us slept in and got up to watch the day come alive.
I love your pictures.

Beautiful photos. As a morning person who is somehow always out-morning personed by the kiddos (we're talking 5:30, 6:30 tops), I've seen my share of sunrises. And I never ever tire of them.

oh, I WISH I was a morning person! I really do. But I am not, never have been, and am doubtful I ever will be. Although on those mornings when I'm woken before dawn (against my will, of course), I am always grateful for the rare opportunity to relish the sunrise. :)
