can't it linger a little longer?

Bee Balm
I'm in denial that there are only two weeks left of summer.
It isn't just the warm weather and the camping and swimming and tomatoes that I will miss.
There's more. This summer is different than all of the others. This summer is our last summer marked by the seasons, rather than a school calendar. This summer is the first that ends on September 1, instead of ending when the days get shorter and the air cooler.
And as ready as he is to go off to school and thrive with other children and a teacher and letters and numbers and science projects, I am not ready to send him off. To accept that he will spend more waking hours away from us than with us. To surrender to the rhythm of semesters instead of seasons. To sacrifice spontaneity for schedules.
How did six years fly by so quickly?
Two weeks left of summer. And then we officially enter the School Daze. I knew it was coming. But I will hold fast to these last remnants of summer sweetness.

lovely images. Soak up these last few days of summer, and wait again. . .they'll be back next time the season changes.
Your header is so great...
Just had a few hours to blog hop tonight and enjoyed reading yours. I am doing a series of posts on holiday decorating, so hope you will stop by. http://teresa-grammygirlfriend.blogspot.com/
aww :) that is so sweet.
and sad.
My son is 2.5 and every time he comes up with an original thought that I hadn't taught him I am amazed and sort of sad that he's growing up!! :)
How sad that you must force your poor child out of the loving home environment into the hands of one who does not know or love them as you do. There is an alternative...keep your child home. Ah but that would require sacrifice on your part..hard work but most of all your time. Can't have that can you. Give me a break and give your child some love.
I got a lump in my throat reading this post...I am feeling your pain! Thanks for sharing!
To the prior "anonymous" poster...I have to say that you are rude and way out of line. Back off and apologize for coming to someone's blog and then chastising them for their personal choices, of which you have NO information to make your rash judgement. Shame on you.
This was a beautiful post and I hope you both have a wonderful Kindergarten year.

Anonymous Number One -
You are saying those who don't home school don't love their children? Why didn't you sign your name to that comment so that we know who you are? It is easy to be hateful and critical of others when you don't have to say it to their face, isn't it?
Boy Crazy - I sent my girls to school this morning and am right there with you!
Wow! Guess a nasty anonymous comment means my blog has hit the big times? Ha! LOL
Anyway, thanks to the rest of you for your sweet words.
I'll save the posts about the virtues of getting involved in your local public school or honoring parents for knowing what's best fot their own family for another time. ;)
